Search Engine LinkTionary

Good links are essential in attaining a high ranking and return position from Google and the other search engines.
Conversely, bad links can get your site severely penalized and even delisted.
Here's some definitions to consider in selecting a hosted link-management service.

Earned Link

"The best links are earned and given by choice ... links are usually editorial votes given by choice."
-- Google Webspam Director Matt Cutts

ManagedLinkBuilding guarantees that every link we add to your site has earned the "editorial vote" of a full-time professional linking expert who has personally visited and approved the linked page for relevancy, quality and adherence to search-engine best-practices guidelines.

Bad Neighborhood

A "bad neighborhood" is a site or host that employs "black-hat" tricks such as irrelevant links, doorway pages, malware, link farming, cloaked content, deceitful page redirects, etc. In its official Guidelines, Google warns webmasters to "avoid links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links."

Link-acquisition programs that promise to immediately add hundreds or thousands of links to your site typically get most of those links from bad-neighborhoods created solely to try and spam the search engines. ManagedLinkBuilding does not, and never will, solicit or approve links from bad neighborhoods.

Reciprocal Links

"Trading links is natural and it's natural to have reciprocal links."
-- Google Webspam Director Matt Cutts

Good reciprocal links are links between pairs of sites which, in Google's words, "provide context about the subject matter of your site." The most important thing to remember about reciprocal links is that, according to Google, their "quality and relevance ... count towards your rating." Unlike other hosted link-management providers, ManagedLinkBuilding guarantees to add only editor-approved, high-quality, relevant links to your site.

Backlink

"PageRank [expected to be obsolete in the very near future http://blog.ineedhits.com/search-news/google-pagerank-to-be-phased-out-06358973.html ] is the measure of the importance of a page based on the incoming links from other pages."
-- Google Webmaster Central

One-way or backlinks are unreciprocated "incoming links" to your site from "other pages." Since, to quote Google again, "not all links are equal" only relevant one-way links from so-called authority sites will appreciably add to a site's search-engine appeal. By providing links to your blogs, articles and other appropriate content to key directories and individual sites, this encourages backlinks from authoritative sites in your site's business category.

Paid Links

"Buying or selling links .. is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results."
-- Google Webmaster Central

Search engines consider links that are bought and sold paid links regardless of whether they are priced individually by services that offer "introductions" to link partners at $10 or $12 each or by the ton ("10,000 links for $29.95" deals). ManagedLinkBuilding does not buy, sell or trade paid links of any kind. Links are added naturally to your site based solely on their editorial quality and relevance.

Anchor Text

"The better your anchor text is, the easier it is for users to navigate and for Google to understand what the page you're linking to is about."
-- Google Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide

Anchor text consists of the words used to describe a link so that people will want to click on it. It should be, Google says, "short but descriptive" and should not be "non-generic or off topic." ManagedLinkBuilding will handcraft the same type of powerful, effective anchor text for your links that we use for our own.
